Our Green Story
Our Green Story
Please read our Green Story on the link below.
Green Tourism is a recognised sustainability certification organisation who provide information and support to the hospitality industry to help them improve their environmental practices. We are proud members of Green Tourism and are consistently working hard behind the scenes to improve ourselves and reduce our impact on the environment. Businesses who are a part of Green Tourism are assessed by qualified and experienced sustainability experts and have to prove and evidence everything they do – there is a lot of genuine hard work that goes in to achieving the award, so you can be assured that any awards given are certainly deserved.
Management and several members of our team meet on a regular basis to review our progress and discuss all things ‘Green’. We are proud to say that many of our team have completed additional training relating to the environment and sustainability. This strengthens our environmental practices, improves operational efficiency, helps us meet guest expectations for responsible tourism, and reinforces our long-term commitment to sustainable hospitality. It also supports our ambition to achieve further recognition and accreditation for our sustainability efforts as we continue to develop and enhance our environmental initiatives.
***August 2026 update***
We are delighted to share just some of the ways in which we are already well underway in our Green Tourism journey and reducing the amounts of waste we accumulate. We are looking forward to submitting for our first assessment in the coming weeks and see what level of award we have achieved…!
We have –
- Removed plastic water bottles in rooms and replaced with glass refillable bottles – saving 20,000 plastic bottles in 2025 alone!
- Extra recycling bins in place to aid staff in sorting and organising
- Milk pots have been replaced with milk sticks – did you know the sticks have less packaging than the pots?
- Plastic drinks stirrers have been replaced with sustainable, recyclable wooden ones
- Large bottles of cleaning products and toiletries are ordered instead of repeatedly buying individual bottles
- Catering packs of cereal and cooking ingredients used instead of small, individual portions
- No longer ordering decorative tray papers or toilet roll stickers
- Large tubs and containers (for example ice cream tubs) are re used instead of recycled.
In the future, we are looking to –
- Replace our condiment sachets in our lounge bar with a more environmentally friendly alternative
- Source toilet paper wrapped in paper and not plastic
- Source alternatives to plastic toothbrushes
In terms of energy consumption and reducing it, below are just some of the measures we already take –
- LED bulbs are used throughout the majority of the hotel
- We make the most of natural daylight where possible and encourage staff and guests to turn off lights when they are not required
- Heating and hot water temperatures and timings are adjusted as necessary according to the seasons and (daily) changing weather conditions!
- Washing and drying is carried out at lower temperatures where appropriate
- Equipment is regularly serviced by qualified professionals to ensure the smooth running (we have a fantastic team!)
- Monthly metre reads are completed to monitor consumption.
In the future, we are looking to –
- Replace appliances with energy efficient alternatives when the time comes to replace
- Look into the possibility of replacing our boilers with even more energy efficient models
- Improving insulation throughout the hotel
- Adding even more EV chargers as demand increases
In terms of water consumption –
- Laundry equipment and dishwashers only run when they are full
- Low flow shower heads are installed
- Guests are encouraged to reuse linen and towels during their stay as much as possible
- Plants are watered by the team only when necessary
- Monthly metre reads are completed to monitor consumption
In the future, we are looking to –
- Increase our collection of water butts to collect and reuse rain water
- Continue to ensure any leaks are detected and fixed promptly
- Look into individual department cleaning practices to see where water consumption can be reduced further – for example a ‘one flush per clean’ policy for housekeeping
As we progress, we look forward to making even more changes to reduce the amount of waste we produce
